Step Up for State Social Media FAQ

Social media will play a very important role during Step Up for State, enabling you to deliver messages about it to the entire Texas State community. Find best practices and advice on social media posts below:

  • Follow the Texas State (@txst) and Texas State University Alumni @txstalumni Twitter accounts for all Step Up for State materials. 
  • Use the Sample Social Media Posts as templates when posting to Facebook and Twitter. 
  • Encourage schools, units, student groups, and friends of Texas State to promote Step Up for State through their social media channels by making people aware of the day and encouraging them to give to their favorite causes. 
  • Individuals can retweet and share information from the Texas State University and Texas State Alumni Facebook and Twitter accounts prior to, during, and following Step Up for State.
  • Use your school, unit, or project’s social media channels to encourage people to donate to your cause by making people aware of Step Up for State on your social media channels prior to, on, and after Step Up for State (to thank your donors). 
  • Whenever you post about Step Up for State, make sure to use the hashtags #StepUpforState or #ISteppedUp in each post. Tag @txst and @txstalumni on Twitter for even more exposure. 
  • Download Step Up for State images that can be used for your social media profile pictures and cover photos.
  • Posts with graphics receive higher reach and engagement than text-only posts.
  • Tag the appropriate accounts for each project, college, or organization in project-specific posts. 

Pre-Step Up for State actions:

  • Use your social media channels to make your followers aware of Step Up for State.
  • Inform followers on the 1,899 minutes of giving and remind followers of the date.
  • Generate excitement for the overall campaign and specific projects you choose to support.
  • Posting frequency recommendations:
    • Facebook: 1x week
    • Twitter: 2x week
    • Instagram: 1x week

During Step Up for State actions:

  • Use your social media channels to announce the start of Step Up for State. 
  • Inform followers how they can give to projects during the 1,899 minutes of giving.
  •  Posting frequency recommendations:
    • Facebook: 3x day
    • Twitter: 10x day
    • Instagram: 2x day

Post-Step Up for State actions:

  • Use your social media channels to thank donors for their participation. Include the total number of donors and gifts made during Step Up for State. (This information will be available on the Texas State Giving Facebook page)
  • Tell your followers the gifts raised during Step Up for State will support the university and the specific projects.
  • Posting frequency recommendations:
    • Facebook: 1-2x
    • Twitter: 2-3x
    • Instagram: 1x
