1899 Scholars Bios
Meet the 1899 Scholars
Jenna Carroll – Jenna Carroll is a sophomore from Schertz, Texas. Her major is journalism and Mass Communication, with a minor in Political Communication. Carroll is a second-year member of the Texas State Strutters dance team, and this year she serving as a social officer for the team.
Urvi Dalal – Urvi Dalal is a Texas State sophomore from Burleson, Texas. She is majoring in Public Relations with a minor in business. Dalal was actively involved in the Student Volunteer Connection (SVC) organization at Texas State during her freshman year on campus. She is excited to continue her journey at Texas State and continue to be involved in the university in the years to come.
Makayla Gutierrez – Makayla Gutierrez is from Luling, Texas, and is a student in the honors college at Texas State. Gutierrez has just begun her first year of nursing school at Texas State University’s St. David’s School of Nursing. Gutierrez’ long-term goal is to become a registered nurse and begin a career in travel nursing so that she can see the world and simultaneously help others as much as possible. During her time at Texas State, she has enjoyed participating in Bobcat Build and volunteering at the Hays County Food Bank.
Noah Lawrence – Noah Lawrence is a junior at Texas State University, majoring in political science and minoring in history. Additionally, Lawrence is looking to complete his teacher’s certification for social studies in grades 7-12. He is a native of San Antonio where he hopes to return to serve his community as an educator.
Andi McMillin – Andi McMillin is a junior from Shallowater, Texas, who has just begun the Texas State University nursing program at St. David’s School of Nursing in Round Rock. She was one of the 100 applicants to be selected into this program. Although she is sad to be leaving the campus in San Marcos, Andi looks forward to pursuing the nursing program in Round Rock. After graduation, McMillin plans to become a traveling nurse and hopes serve in areas of great need.
Matthew Moore – Matthew Moore is a sophomore from Harlingen, Texas, pursuing a bachelors in music studies with a violin focus and a Mariachi minor. Matthew has crafted his violin skills for the past eight years and hopes to become a music educator, specializing in either orchestra or mariachi.
Marlee Russell – Marlee Russell is from Sherman, Texas and is entering her third year at Texas State. She majoring in Agriculture Business and Management with a concentration in Horticultural Business and minoring in Theatre. Russell has enjoyed working with the Texas State staff and her like-minded peers to cultivate her skills. She is actively involved in the Honors College and the Ally program, and is also an officer of Alpha Psi Omega, a co-ed theatre honors fraternity.
Laura Sebile – Laura Sebile is from Beaumont, Texas, and is a junior at Texas State University. She plans to graduate and pursue a medical career as a doctor. Sebile plans to specialize in holistic/natural medicine and give back to the community. She also wants to dedicate service to lower income and African-American communities.
