Karen Soefje joined Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP (“MCG”) in November 2009. MCG is the sixth largest CPA firm in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Karen serves as the lead partner in the firm’s qualified plans audit and consulting practice. Her plan audit experience includes Department of Labor (DOL) disclaimers and full-scope audits of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, health and welfare plans, cash balance plans, and employee stock ownership plans.
Soefje serves the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as an Oversight Reviewer to Peer Review of employee benefit plan audits, and she is a frequent speaker at the National Pension Institutional Investment Summit, Southwest Benefits Association trainings, and various other educational events related to employee benefit plans.
Prior to MCG, Soefje spent seven years at KPMG LLP and was responsible for the North Texas and Oklahoma employee benefit plan audit practice. She also co-authored KPMG’s national training and local office training for employee benefit plan audits. In addition, she annually conducted KPMG’s quality peer review process over benefit plan audits across the firm's offices in the United States.
Prior to joining KPMG, Soefje spent 12 years at Arthur Andersen LLP, providing corporate audit and qualified plans audit and consulting services to a variety of public and private companies. She also has served as a national instructor on various qualified plan topics.
Soefje studied accounting at Texas State University from 1985 to 1988 before transferring to the University of Houston - Clear Lake, where she completed her undergraduate degree.
