President's Associates

A Letter from the President

Prsident Trauth

I invite you to join the President’s Associates, the premier giving society of Texas State University-San Marcos. With an annual gift of at least $1,000, designated for the president’s discretionary use or earmarked to fund an area of special interest to you, you will join an elite group of individuals who make a significant impact on the faculty and students of Texas State University.
Our university truly is the rising star of Texas. In the five years I have had the privilege to lead Texas State, I have seen our institution make great strides in five key areas.
1.    Our student-faculty teaching ratio has improved with the increase in the number of full-time faculty from 801 to 950.
2.    We continue to provide competitive salaries to recruit and retain a highly qualified faculty and staff. Funds have been dedicated to increase most faculty and staff salaries to a competitive level when compared to benchmark universities.
3.    Plans are under way to transform the Mitte Honors Program into an honors college. This change should help the university attract more high-achieving students.
4.    Our student body is becoming increasingly diverse. Thirty percent of Texas State students are ethnic minorities, and we are on track to be a Hispanic Serving Institution by 2012. The university has also received recognition as a model for Hispanic student success. This year, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and The Education Trust ranked Texas State among only 11 U.S. public universities that are “doing better than their peers in graduating Hispanic students.”
5.    Our menu of graduate programs is growing. In July 2007, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved our doctoral program in physical therapy, the university’s seventh doctoral program.

Yet, for all the accolades and achievements, Texas State University receives less than 32 percent of its funding from the state. To accomplish the university’s strategic goals and meet the growing needs of the citizens of our great state and beyond, we must turn to our alumni and friends. Thank you for considering a gift that will place you among the President’s Associates of Texas State University-San Marcos.
